By John, on June 1st, 2011% On our second day in Auckland we decided to revisit Devonport as it looked very nice yesterday though we didn’t get a chance to see much of it. Plus it gave us a chance to go there by ferry which is almost as lovely as taking a ferry in Sydney’s harbour. However, while having some fish and chips for lunch, as you do, Roz spied the local library and couldn’t help but pop in to look at some newspapers.
It was a small library with a small local history section but they did have some local newspaper clippings from between . . . → Read More: Harry in New Zealand (part 3)

Inglis Memorial Hall
It has recently been brought to my attention that the Inglis Memorial Library in Edzell has been closed by the local council and replaced by a 2-hour weekly mobile library service. The Library, as well as 5000 books (for what point is a library without books!), was gifted to the village of Edzell (in Angus, Scotland) in 1898 by Sir Robert William Inglis in memory of his parents and uncle. The gift was supported by a trust fund, and the opening ceremony was a . . . → Read More: The Inglis Memorial Library: CLOSED
By Roz, on November 25th, 2007% William was one of James Inglis‘ younger brothers, I have written about him before I think. He was tempted to Australia by James and took a position in a bank in Wilcannia (a town in New South Wales about 450 miles North West of Sydney) taking with him his wife and four young children Helen, Mary, Robert and William.
There is a transcription of a vivid account (given by Helen, using the name Daisy because her second name was Margaret) of life in Wilcannia and the death of their father, on rootsweb . . . → Read More: William Burnet Inglis 1851 – 1888
By Roz, on September 9th, 2007% Well hey there strangers…
Blog entries have not been my priority for a few weeks [ahem] ok, months, I know, but I have an excuse.
John and I are now Australia-based, so a few weeks were lost there, but now we’re up and running.
Regarding the Hendersons: if John has been a good husband he will have uploaded the latest tree, which includes a vastly updated section of the descendants of John Crosbie Aitken Henderson. It seems my great grandmother (the ever-elusive Daisy Henderson) was the youngest of a large brood, the descendants of which still keep in contact with . . . → Read More: Information overload: more posts to follow on Hendersons and on Inglis
By John, on June 13th, 2007% Dear all, apologies for not writing much here in the last few months. We’ve just relocated to Australia from the UK and were too busy to do anything much genealogical. But, now we’re here in Sydney we’re just about ready to restart.
Roz will soon be concentrating on James Inglis again as Sydney is where he lived and died. I mentioned in a previous post that he was a politician and many of his papers are stored in the Mitchell Library of the State Library of New South Wales. So Roz hopes to gain access to them, especially . . . → Read More: A Momentary Lapse
