Task: To consolidate and confirm data regarding Alexander Brand Inglis

The weekend threw up loads up extra information on the Inglis family, which John dealt with. I chose therefore to take what we had learnt from secondary sources on the internet (especially rootsweb.com) and build up a better and more solid picture of Colin Inglis’ father Alexander Brand Inglis.

Priscilla Bird

Yesterday’s task: to determine the death date of Priscilla Bird and from thereon to determine her maiden name and marriage date to William Bird.

Task 1: Date of death.

We know from the 1901 Census that Priscilla was living with her daughter Amy and her family (the Readings) and was listed as being an “imbecile” and a Widow. Therefore the earliest she can have died is Q2 1901. The latest, realistically, she can have died is 1920, so I started the search from there and worked backwards. Benjamin Forbes of Caithness

Most annoyed about Benjamin Forbes. I’ve got his death certificate in 1863 saying he was married to Janet Sutherland as expected but his father is listed as Peter Forbes, not William. I’ll stick with calling his father William anyway as the Scotland’s People search says so and there is a William Forbes born about the right time (1753) but not a Peter Forbes. My next problem is bloody Catherine Forbes, Benjamin’s daughter. Her death certificate says her mother was Catherine Fettes not Janet Sutherland.
